[UrbanCropCircle] Solar Dehydrators & Coffee Grounds >;-)

Last summer when I was up at the Bullock Farm I became somewhat familiar
with the solar drier they've built out of an old refrigerator >;-) They
painted it black (though I'm sure adding some fun designs in other colors is
allowed), situated it in a very sunny location with a slight slope below it
where they had a solar panel enclosed in what was basically a cold frame,
vented the hot air from that into the fridge, and then vented the top of the
fridge to keep the air moving. All the pieces were things that could be
scrounged and it was highly effective. Here's a link to the Bullock Farm
website, and you could also email Dave Boehnlein, their Director of
Education, to see if they have plans that they used.

And Julia, I'd trade you that netting we were talking about for some of
those coffee grounds >;-)

Thanks!

--
To be hopeful in bad times is not just foolishly romantic. It is based on
the fact that human history is a history not only of cruelty but also of
compassion, sacrifice, courage, kindness. What we choose to emphasize in
this complex history will determine our lives. If we see only the worst, it
destroys our capacity to do something. If we remember those times and
places--and there are so many--where people have behaved magnificently, this
gives us the energy to act, and at least the possibility of sending this
spinning top of a world in a different direction. And if we do act, in
however small a way, we don't have to wait for some grand utopian future.
The future is an infinite succession of presents, and to live now as we
think human beings should live, in defiance of all that is bad around us, is
itself a marvelous victory.
