[UrbanCropCircle] Community garden starting on St Luke's empty lot (58th St, 1 block from park)

For years, I've visioned a garden across the street from me on an empty lot owned by St Luke's, between an apartment building and a men's home. I even talked with some folks about it, but it didn't come to be until Gary, a landscaper who's now living in the duplex on St Luke's property, got things moving from the inside.

Gary has been instrumental in getting the St Luke's vacant lot on 58th to become a community garden. We tilled it back in October, removed rocks, and planted a cover crop. He's worked with the church to get enthusiastic support from congregants and leadership. They all want this to be a *COMMUNITY* project with community members, not just a church project. In addition to providing 10x10 plots for folks to rent, Gary will also be leading a series of classes on biointensive gardening.

I think that SB could be a great partner to get folks interested, involved, and contributing. Here's what comes to mind for me to do.
 - announcement on bi-weekly announcement to members
 - start a discussion thread on "SB FYI" email list
 - start a discussion thread on "Urban Crop Circle" email list

Can you think of others?

Thanks,
Michael

P.S. There will be a short introductory meeting *this* Saturday at 10:00 in the St Luke's sanctuary. Please attend if you're interested in participating, either as a gardener or even as an organizer or advisor. If you can't attend, at least send me a message, and I'll keep you informed of progress.
