Hello food lovers,
I am doing a community project called Bountiful Backyard Barter that will
foster ease, connectedness
and fun between Ballard residents who produce food in their own backyards
and/or are into making cheese,
beer, bread, canning etc.
I’m concerned that the urban gardening movement in Seattle is very active,
but many of us still eat
a majority of food that is shipped large distances. For some, the idea of
growing or preserving their
own food can be intimidating. If we don’t do anything many people will
continue to miss the opportunity
to produce their own food and enjoy all the benefits involved.
My project will be based around a free website where backyard food producers
in the Ballard
area can connect and support each other through trading food, seeds and
skills, sharing tools and ;
resources, babysitting each others backyards during vacations and anything
else they can think up.
I predict the energy created will be infectious, and cause many new
communities to join the urban
gardening movement!
I am working on a grant to support the project through the city of Seattle
dept. of neighborhoods.
I am looking for input, partners and guidance. Right now I’m also
specifically looking for someone
with the skills and interest to set up the website. Tell all your friends
about it, and contact me with
all your fabulous ideas!
