[UrbanCropCircle] Building solar food dryers - anybody interested?

Hi fellow gardeners,
I have been reading on the Internet about making solar food dryers. This
year I'm growing a lot of fruits and veggies and want to preserve them
without freezing or canning the food. I've found some good plans and
descriptions for several kinds of dryers. I'm not very handy at building
things, so I'd prefer to buy a commercial solar food dehydrator. There don't
seem to be any for sale. It looks like I will have to make one myself.
Is anybody in the Urban Crop Circle group or any other group in Sustainable
Ballard teaching people how to make solar food dryers? If not, is there any
interest in forming a group to work together to make a prototype, and then
help others to build such dryers? Many of my berries will be ripe in a
couple of weeks and I'd love to have one of the cardboard/painted
plywood/screen racks model ready to use.
Let me know what you think. If nobody else is already coordinating a solar
food dryer project, I'd be willing to do it, even though I have almost no
carpenter skills.
What is the date of the next Urban Crop Circle meeting? I work on Mondays,
but only until June 9. I can come to Monday meetings over the summer. When
is the next meeting of the Crop Circle gardeners? When is the next tour of
Ingela's great chicken house and garden?
Because of my work schedule, I haven't been able to come to any Urban Crop
Circle events. I am eager to meet ya'll and learn more about gardening
organically in the city.
Thanks much,
Susan Helf

Hi Garden Friends:
It won't be long until we have a working forum and we can stay in touch
better between group time! In the meantime, the monthly Get Together is
coming up. How is your garden? Bring your questions and know-how, because
Julianne Jaz will be leading the group on the topic of Lasagna Gardening,
and layering and mulching. If you're not familiar with lasagna gardening
(I'm sure I should be inserting a tm there), this is an entirely new way of
thinking about gardening and is a serious departure from traditional garden
practices that include tilling and such. Layering mimics what Mother Nature
does, reduces maintenance and most importantly protects the soil and our
soil critter friends.
We'll have tea and goodies of course! Feel free to pass this along to any
folks who may be interested, this is an open group and there is No charge!
Monday, June 2nd

See you! Rhonda
