Dear Fellow Gardeners,
Paula asked me to forward to you this announcement from UCC member and chef
Sara Elmore:
Sarah teaches classes at the Community Kitchen in Ballard.
January - We will make two wonderful soups. The first is a quick and simple
Thai
soup that makes use of our local produce - specifically squash. The second
soup is a
mushroom barley soup with a parley and horseradish pesto. While these soups
are cooking
we'll make biscuits to take home. The class is on January 18th at the
Ballard Community
Center. To sign up go to:

February - We will be making dumplings from around the world. The first is a
Chinese-style mushroom
dumpling, which can be frozen and then steamed when you want to use it.
Next we'll make a fruit dumpling; a
simple pear and cranberry dessert dumpling that is a great quick and healthy
dessert. Finally, we'll make pirogi.
The class is on February 15th at the Ballard Community Center.

There has been talk of more cross-pollination between the food and garden
folks -- we already do intersect
frequently, but maybe we should discuss how to do this more intentionally.
We're open to lots of ideas and
would love to have new members and maybe some of you 'retired' members will
be interested in joining up again.
We will meet to explore how the food and garden groups may do more
together:
Monday Jan 31st
6:30- 8:00pm
Ballard Community Center
28th & 60th NW
