I always enjoy the Market Street parade and Trick-or-Treat. For the second year, I sat outside Sip and Ship with Alex Corcoran, editor of Edible Seattle. It's great to sit down to watch the parade instead of standing. It gives such a better view of the costumes, especially the itty bitty ones.

Remembering that I had given Alex some worms to start his own worm bin, I thought of incorporating the worms into the festivity. I harvested about 2 cups of worms, put them in a can and headed down to meet Alex, already passing out Treats. I was to complement him with my Tricks.

When the first kid said "Trick or Treat", he started right in with "I've got both! Which do you want, a trick or a treat?" Most kids answered "Treat", but those said "Trick" got a great view of a gooey pile of red wigglers! And most of those that wanted a Treat also wanted a Trick!

It was great fun!

I got in touch with my Middle School Boy! I had a blast. Alex had a good time. The parents had a good time. And the kids had a good time, even if their most common response was "Ewwweeee".

Wiggly,
Michael (and the Red Wigglers -- originally from Ingela, but now in 8 other bins around Seattle)

:-)

P.S. And I got a few side conversations about how good worms are for creating compost. I don't think that conversation would have happened a decade ago, or would happen today in most cities. We live in great times in a great city!!!
