[UrbanCropCircle] The Witt Winter Garden! OH MY!

Thanks very much to everyone who attended the outing to the Winter Garden
this morning. As a long-time lover of this particular garden, it was such a
delight to share it with all of you - and Ingela, as always, how lovely to
bask in the depth and breadth of your knowledge!!

I can't count the times I've seen folks hurry past this garden, not
understanding that while the blooms may appear insigificant, the best
experience is to be had by the lingering in the path of the scents... and I
hope now that you've all been properly introduced, like Ingela and myself,
you'll make it a practice to return again and again, proseltyzing *your*
friends and loved ones to its subtle joys.

AND, now that you do know about this crown jewel of the Arboretum, please do
go back again this year while it's still in bloom - you'll be astonished as
the various plants come into the fullness of their own fragrance - what you
got today was a teaser - the best is still yet to come!
>;-)
much love to all of you,
Julianne

To be hopeful in bad times is not just foolishly romantic. It is based on
the fact that human history is a history not only of cruelty but also of
compassion, sacrifice, courage, kindness. What we choose to emphasize in
this complex history will determine our lives. If we see only the worst, it
destroys our capacity to do something. If we remember those times and
places--and there are so many--where people have behaved magnificently, this
gives us the energy to act, and at least the possibility of sending this
spinning top of a world in a different direction. And if we do act, in
however small a way, we don't have to wait for some grand utopian future.
The future is an infinite succession of presents, and to live now as we
think human beings should live, in defiance of all that is bad around us, is
itself a marvelous victory.
