I stopped to chat with Jody and thank her (and her crew) for weeding in the park. As we got to talking, I told her that I had (surruptitiously) done some weeding in my spare time, and that it would be great to team up with the Parks Department to commit random (or loosely planned) acts of beauty.

Anyone want to step up to a "community building" or "budget reduction" or "quality improvement" project - AKA gardening?

The opportunities for our garden group to partner with the city (and other neighbors) to do neighborly gardening with neighbors on neighborhood land is immense....

It could be part of the 10/10/10 (one-time) initiative, or an ongoing thing.

Begin forwarded message:

> From: "Blecksmith, Jody" <Jody.Blecksmith@seattle.gov>
> Date: September 7, 2010

There are many ways that Sustainable Ballard can volunteer in Ballard Parks. The simplest and much needed work is at Ballard Commons - weeding and mulching. We could plan a day and have it posted on the Parks website and Groundswell as well.
>
> We can supply tools and schedule debris pickup.
>
> Other Parks in need of TLC are Webster Park (pesticide-free), 6th Ave Pocket Park, Ballard Community Center Butterfly Garden.
>
> Let me know if any of that interests you!
>
